Jeff and I became close friends while he and I were in college.  He was one of my favorite brothers.  I remember well his fantastic personality, his caring and thoughtfulness.  I can only imagine that these traits were abundantly shared with his family throughout his life.

I am sorry for your loss, may Gus rest in peace.

Jeff was my roommate in college. We had some great times and many laughs. He would wake me up on many mornings playing that "horn".. I yelled, he laughed, and on we went. We were both sons of Lumber Men. My dad worked in sawdust and so did his. Life was good. Lots of fun had by 2 young men on their first time out in the big world. He will be missed and I smile every time I think of him...

Gus was a fraternity brother, loyal to a fault, amiable to all, and had a great sense of humor.  I'm sure he will be deeply missed by his family.  I enjoyed reading the very nicely written obituary that confirmed that everything he was when I knew him carried on through the rest of his all too brief life.  Deepest condolences.  Ed

My condolences to Harriet and the boys for their loss of Jeff.  Living across the street, there were always the Gustafson and Swegle boys sharing their big yard with other boys including my brother, Kenny.   Jeff always had a smile when he came over to our house.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Gustafson family.  The bb gun battles circa 1973 between the Swegle boys and the Gustafson boys aka the next door enemy will forever hold true in our hearts and minds.  Rest in peace Gus.

I graduated from Melcher-Dallas in 1977, so Gus & I may have been on opposite sides of a sports event, I don't remember if he and I ever talked about it. At M-D my nickname was Gus and everyone there still refers to me by that nickname. I went off to Kirksville in the fall of '77 and pledged Sig Tau, where I was very promptly informed Jeff already had the nickname "Gus" and I would have to change, so they dubbed me "Gaspo" instead and that nickname has held ever since, including through 25 years in the Navy where, for better or worse, nicknames often come hard won.  I have told that story many times over the years and have always thought of Gus in doing so. . .so, in a very personal way, he has always been with me and a part of me. I will never forget Gus and am honored to call him "Brother".  My deepest sympathies to you in his passing.  Very sincerely, Steve "Gaspo" Gasparovich

Please know that Jeff and you his family are in our prayers. It never seems to be the right time or place to lose a loved one. Stay strong as Jeff is in a better place, free from pain. I always remember his smile; I saw it many times right before the group of us found ourselves in trouble and I know I saw it a few of the pictures you posted over the last few months.
