Vernon Edward “Ed” Black Jr., 87, passed away December 12, 2017 in Chariton, Iowa. Born December 23, 1929 to Vernon Edward Black Sr. and Opal Verlene (Fox) Black in St. Joseph, Missouri. He graduated from Benton High School in St. Joseph.

Ed Black married Jean Fairlie on March 8, 1950. They were blessed with two children; Celia and Denny. They made their home in Chariton in 1956. Married 61 years.

Ed married Colene Briggs Reynolds July 21, 2012 at the Truth Assembly of God Church in Chariton, Iowa. Ed enjoyed going for rides with Colene, they put many miles on their vehicles traveling, he liked eating out, Church events, spending time and meeting with friends and family.  Ed had a sharp mind and could remember so many stories and loved to share them with the people around him.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Jean Black. Left to cherish his memories are wife Colene Black, daughter Celia (Bob) Goering of Oakley, and son, Denny (Joan) Black of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren, and may extended friends and family that loved him dearly.
