Victoria R. Torres of California, died in her Chariton, Iowa home, March 30th at the age of 92. She had been transitioning with a steady decline four months prior, until her last breath. She was at peace, had her family and faith with her.
Vicky, born Victoria R. Lopez to Saturnino and Margaret Lopez on January 12, 1931 in Brawley Ca. Vicky was #2of seven siblings. Four sisters, Marie Alonzo, Ca, Ann Roper, Nv, Ellias Vegas, Nv and Margaret Hoene, IL. Two brothers, Ben Lopez, Ca and Cruz Calvillo, Ca. They were raised in the small town Decoto, Ca, where she attended school. Vicky excelled in math, reading and enjoyed playing the violin.
Louie (Buddy) Pagan Torres moved to Decoto from Hawaii, where they met. They married on January 12, 1952, after Bud graduated from high school and before he shipped out to fight in the Korean War. They shared their love for 72 years.
She enjoyed dancing at the Puerto Rican Hall in Decoto, Ca, gambling in Reno, Nv., fishing in Half Moon Bay, Ca. She self-taught knitting, crochet with knitting being favored and enjoyed knitting hats, sweaters for her family and hats for the homeless. Her and Buddy would take to the streets and hand them out to all in need. She read entire libraries in the neighboring towns she lived. She would read 7-9 books a week.
Bud and Vicky had two children, Edward J. Torres and Jacqueline M. Torres. Vicky worked as a homemaker until 1970 then worked as a bookbinder in Palo Alto Ca. until she retired. In 1992, they made Chariton, Iowa their home.
Combined their children gave them five Grandchildren: Dani (Dave) Taylor, Tx, Jene Torres, Tx., Rick (Jen) DeRossett, Ia, Sonny (Darci) Jacobson, Ia, Brittany (Ryan) Jacobson, Ia.
Seven Honorable Grandchildren, Ashlee Jennings, Ia., Addie Binns, Ia., Jesse Zankowski, Ia., Athena Waits, Ks, Alexandria Parlier, Ia., Abbe Parlier, Ia., Allen Parlier, Ia.
Fifteen Great-Grandchildren: Dalton (Taylor) Brow, Ky., Amanda Brow, Ca., Cameron Taylor, Ky., Ethan Taylor, Ky., Kyle Taylor, Ky., Gabriel (Anna) Jaeger Co., Katelyn Jaeger Tx., Lexi Daleske, Ia., Kileigh Proberzen, Az., Kaden Proberzen, Az., Layne Foote, Ia., Ezra Foote, Ia., Lauren Jacobson, Ia., Logan Jacobson, Ia., Gavin Jacobson, Ia., Garrett Jacobson, Ia.
Four Great-Great-Grandchildren: Jeremiah Jaeger, Janessa Jaeger, Julianna Jaeger and Janell Jaeger.
She is survived by her husband, her Aunt Alberta Becic, Or., Sisters Ann , Elias and Marge, brother Cruz, two children, seven of eight nephews, David Maestas, Ca., Curtis Lopez, Ca., Daniel Lopez, Ca., Keith Lopez, Ca., Cruz Calvillo, Or., Noel Calvillo, Ca., six of her eight nieces, Cathy Sanchez, Ny., Louisa Elorreaga, Nv., Bernadette Merchado, Ca., Trish Morgan, Nv., Angela Lopez, Ca. and cousin Richard Taylor, Or., Peggy Dixon, Or., Beverly Allen, Or.
Vicky didn’t have friends, for she had her family, that’s all she ever wanted and that’s all she ever needed. Not only did she come from a large family, so did her husband and was enriched by the entire Pagan family as well. She lived life on her terms, her way. Independent. Strong. Stubborn. Generous. Loving.
She was preceded in death by both parents, grandparents, Ines and Petronilla Lorenzi, Uncles, Esa Lorenzi, Ca., Tony Lorenzi, Ca., Consuello Lorenzi, Ca., sister Marie, brother Ben, nephew Louis Vegas, Ca., niece and God daughter Donna Franklin, Ca., and niece Bernadine Reams, Fla.
Vicky is forever loved and will be forever missed.
