Tommy Dwight Newton was born at home in Ringgold County near Beaconsfield, Iowa on August 15, 1935. He was the 9th of 10 children born to Don and Fern Newton. They were a close knit and hard working family. Tom and Floris were married in June of 1957 and 3 children Melodie, Rhonda and Michael were born to this union. The family lived at Walnut, Iowa for 14 years and moved to Lucas County in 1972.
After leaving the farm in 1977, Tom and family moved into Chariton where Tom went to work at Johnson Machine Works until he retired. Meanwhile, the family had moved to Derby in 1986 and remain there.
Preceding Tom in death were his parents and brothers, Wayne, Lester (Gen), Artie (Shirley), Owen, sisters Donella (Chet Showers) and Ardella (Paul Smith) and grandson Christopher Eric Poole.
Survivors are his wife Floris of 62 years, daughters Melodie (Jeff Poole), Rhonda (Scott Howard) and son Michael (Jackie Green); Grandchildren Dusty Poole (Cassie Kennedy); Miranda (Ryan Halverson, Josh Howard, Jairus Howard, Amber (Garin Wilson), Zach Newton (Hannah) and Chelsey (Shawn Phipps). Fifteen great grandchildren. Survivors also include brothers, Hugh, Al (Colleen), Gary (Lucy), sister-in-law Irma Lee Newton and many nieces and nephews.
Please join the family for Tom's Celebration of Life service. Will be held at Derby Community Center, Derby Iowa, Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with lunch following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
