Sam G. (S.G.) Morris, 84, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Mercer, MO. He was born on October 14, 1941, in Chariton, Iowa to Lloyd Emerson and Thelma Irene (DeWitt) Morris. Sam grew up in Chariton and graduated from Chariton High School in 1960. After high school, Sam enlisted in the United States Navy from 1960 –1964. He served in the Pacific Theater during the start of the Vietnam War. After Sam was discharged from the Navy he returned to his hometown, Chariton.
In 1966, Sam married the love of his life, Arlyce M. Reece. To this union two children were born, Sam G. Morris Jr. and Amy Joell Morris. Sam begins working at Maytag, which he worked there most of his adult life as a Tool and Die Craftsman until he retired at the age of 53. Sam enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish and hunt.
Left to mourn his death are his children, Sam G. Morris Jr, of Sterling, Illinois, Amy (Wade) Wood of Chariton, brother, Lewis Eddy (Shirley) Morris of Cedar Rapids, niece, Lynann (Larry) Pancula of Eastlake, Ohio, sister-in-law, Sandy (Chuck) Davis of Sterling, Illinois. He will be greatly missed by family and the many friends.
Sam is preceded in death by his wife, Arlyce, parents, Lloyd and Thelma Morris and nephew, Andrew Morris.
