Odene Geneva Thompson Jessip

Odene Geneva (Thompson) Jessip, age 91, was in hospice at the Corydon Specialty Care in Corydon, Iowa has passed away on April 13, 2026.  Geneva was born on May 18, 1934, in LaVern Iowa to Elizabeth (Hinze) and Maurice Thompson. Geneva grew up in Northern Iowa.

In 1955 at a local dance in Northern Iowa, Geneva met her future husband (Leo) where they danced the Jitterbug. Later that year she married the love of her life, Leo, in Russell, Iowa. To this union they were blessed with three children, Susan, Lee Ann and Tom.

Geneva was a full-time mother raising three children. They enjoyed doing family projects, mushroom hunting, bowling, gardening and family vacations to Florida. She accepted the Lord as her savior many years ago and faithfully attended the Church of the Nazarene in Chariton.  Where she became a Sunday school teacher, a Church board member. She touched many lives through her faith!

Geneva began working for Lucas County Hospital as a ward clerk after passing her certification. She worked full-time for 28 years at which time she retired.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leo, parents Lizzy (Elizabeth) and Maurice Thompson, brother Raymond Thompson, sister Genevieve Schoon and daughter Susan Stephenson.

Geneva is survived by her daughter Lee Ann (John) Beers of Corydon, son Tom (Sheri) Jessip of Chariton, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, twin sister Ersel Rushton of Farnhamville, sisters, Joyce Stringfellow of Punta Gorda, FL, Pauline Rodgers of N. Ft. Meyers, FL and many other relatives and friends.

Services are under the direction of Clark Fielding at Fielding Funeral Home.
