Nell Elizabeth (Gray) Hensley

Nell E. Hensley, 86, passed away on Wednesday, December 8,2021 at the Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa. The family have a huge hole in their hearts and they know she has rejoined with her husband, which was her greatest wish.  

 Nell was born on March 18, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa to Frank and Ellen (Gwinn) Gray. She and her family lived in Chariton, Iowa. Nell graduated from Chariton High School.

On August 24, 1952, Nell married Richard L. Hensley in Russell, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Janet, Jim and Julie.  Her main focus was her family and she was always her kids and grandkids biggest cheerleader.  Nell worked at various positions at the US Bank in Chariton, Iowa.  She retired on December 31, 1993.

On August 8, 2005, Nell lost the love and best friend her husband Richard.  She and her family lived in Chariton most of their lives. In 2016, Nell moved to Indianola to be closer to her family.

Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ellen Gray, her husband, Richard, her siblings, Roy Gray, Randal Gray, Gerald Taylor, Doris Windsor, Marie Reeves, Frances Reid, Florence Brown, Laura Viaro Hite, grandson David Crooks.

She is survived by children, Janet (Lester McCollum) Hensley of Richmond , MO, Jim (Kim) Hensley of Mt. Ayr, IA, Julie (Rebel) Snodgrass of Indianola, IA, her grandchildren, Jenni (Jeff) Lindley of Richmond, MO, Sara Thomas of Des Moines, IA, Amy Roberts of Richmond, MO, Rich (Jodi) Hensley of Kellerton, IA, Mike (Natasha) Hensley of Kearney, MO, Scott (Nikki) Hensley of Altoona, IA, her sisters, Flo (Bob) Burley of Chariton, IA, Mary Lou Hickerson of Chariton, IA, and 17 great-grandchildren.  On line condolences may be left at www.fieldingfuneralhome.com.
