Melvin Dwight Abrahamson, 79 of Chariton, pasted away on December 23, 2020 at Care Initiatives in Chariton.
Melvin was born on June 1, 1941 to Amos (Bill) and Jessie Abrahamson in rural Lucas County. He was the 3rd of 6 children. When Melvin was little his dad came up with nickname Wink which followed him all the way up to his death. On April 20, 1960 he was united in marriage to Ina Lee Ross. The couple had 3 daughters Kandy, Tammy and Julie. During this time Melvin worked at Maytag, and Nestaway. But most of all he enjoyed camping, walks and spending time with family and friends. In 1993 Winks wife Ina passed away.
In 1997 Melvin married Mary Milligan and to this union she brought 2 more girls Andrea and Debi. Melvin drove rock truck for Lucas County for many years up until he retired. He also enjoyed being on the Lucas County Sheriff Reserves. After retirement he spent a majority of his time with his grandchildren. Which to him they were his pride and joys. He and Mary would spend weeks at a time camping and enjoy the outside. In the last couple years when they wasn’t able to go camping they loved spending time with his daughter and grandkids whether it was a bbq, a bonfire, or just sitting outside talking with their family.
Melvin is survived by his wife Mary of Chariton, daughter Julie (Bryan) Koch of Lacona, step-daughters Andrea (Rick) Jensen of Bettendorf and Debi Griffey of Des Moines, 7 grandchildren, Brianna, Samuel, Jessie, Madison, Cooper, Wesley, and Spencer, siblings Robert (Marilyn) Abrahamson of Gentry, Arkansas, Juanita Holmes of Slater, Walt (Barb) of Williamson and David (Mona) Abrahamson of Ankeny along with many nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Amos and Jessie Abrahamson, his wife Ina, daughters, Kandy and Tammy, brother Gary and sister Betty.
