Martha Sue (Black) McVey Obituary

. Services will

Martha Sue (Black) McVey was born November 12, 1946 to Wayde Clair and Othella Fern (Allen) Black at Yocom hospital in Chariton.

She spent her early years at the one room Puckerbrush country school, and just "Loved" it when we would remind her that her elementary school is now at a museum!

She finished her education at CHS (Go Chargers!) in 1965, where she met the love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) Wayne McVey. They were married in 1966 and even though Martha and Jerry parted ways, Martha's love continued for him and his family.

She cooked for many years at the Russell Corner restaurant, followed by the Senior Center in Chariton, leaving most of Lucas county with full bellies and a smile.

Martha enjoyed reading, watching cooking and game shows (Wheel of Fortune!), spending time with friends and family and in her later years at the nursing home she enjoyed church, activities, and listening to all the gossip the girls had to give her.

Martha passed peacefully on December 6th, 2025, surrounded by family. She will be greatly missed by many, her ability to bring smiles to anyone's face is a serious loss to us all.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband Jerry, her parents, Wayde and Othella Black, brothers Stan and Dale Black, and her sister-in-law Betty Black.

She is survived by her two children, Mark McVey and Annette (McVey) Noel, her Grandson Gavin McVey, her Great Granddaughter Hadley, her sister-in-law, Linda Black, plus a ton of niece's and nephew's!

Thank you to the Bloomfield Care Center staff for surrounding our mother with love for all these years, her passing has hit you hard, as well!

Services will be held at a later date under the direction of Fielding Funeral Home.
