Marlene Fullmer Obituary

Obituary of M. Marlene Fullmer

Long time resident of Chariton, Marlene Fullmer passed away shortly before midnight on November 21, 2020. She was born to Richard and Gladys Elwood on July 4, 1926. Her birthday was often celebrated by extended family who enjoyed the Independence Day celebrations of the community as well. This continued even after her move to Corydon Specialty care in 2014.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Fullmer, their daughter Vicky
Larrington, and by nine of her ten siblings, and great grandson Toby McClelland. Family remaining to remember her are her sister, Pauline Broda of DesMoines, her daughter and son-in-Law, Kathy Fullmer and Victor Martin of Puxico, Missouri. Also left behind are four grandchildren Patrick Martin (wife Simona) of Moberly, MO, and Laurel McClelland (husband Josh) of Zalma, MO, and Jill Hyson (husband Ray) of Blue Springs, MO, and grandson Justin Larrington of Fairbault, MN. She leaves five great grandchildren Rion, Patrica (husband Jesse), Sean, Kara, and Kinley, and nieces and nephews too numerous to count! Let us also mention a great great granddaughter, Maeve, born to Jesse and Patrica, August 28, 2020, whom she did not have the opportunity to meet.

Marlene worked in the Gross Galesburg pants factory from 1963 until the plant closed. Her retirement years were filled with babysitting, Chariton Women’s Club, Sunday School teaching, embroidering more than thirty sets of dish towels made to donate to community efforts. She wanted to leave something good behind. Marlene also worked election poles in Lucas Country as a Democrat for as long as she was able.

In reflecting upon her life it occurs to the author that some of her happiest years of life were spent early on in her six year stay at Corydon Specialty care. She truly enjoyed not having to prepare meals and just generally not having to worry about the necessities of life and consequently rewarded her care givers with a cheerful demeanor.

Many thanks are due Jill Hyson, granddaughter, who dedicated much time towards the care of her mother and grandparents when they were residents in a care facility. This was not easy, ever. Her dedication will always be appreciated.

Marlene Fullmer died of Covid19. The family plans to commit her cremated remains in July of 2021, as pandemic circumstances will allow, with a graveside service only.
