Mabel Burgett-Glass

Mabel Burgett Glass, age 101, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Chariton Specialty Care in Chariton, Iowa. Mabel had been a resident there since June 2007.

Born December 15, 1918, Mabel was the daughter of Walter Melvin Burgett and Hazel May (Wilkinson) Burgett.  Due to the early death of her father in a coal mine accident, Mabel spent most of her childhood and teen years living with her grandparents, John and Josephine Burgett in Chariton, Iowa .

In 1938 Mabel was united in marriage to Orie F. Glass in Chariton, Iowa.  They were blessed with one son, Orie F. Glass Jr. Most of her married life she lived in Lucas, Iowa.

Mabel enjoyed coin and stamp collecting and going to dances.  Her favorite pastime was mowing yards. In her later years her interest was working puzzle books and playing Bingo.   

Her memory is honored by her daughter- in- law , Millie Glass of Georgia; granddaughters, Juanita Glass of Florida and Dawn Glass of Georgia; great-grandsons, Jonathan Minnis of Georgia, Gary Suttell and Orie R. Glass of Tennessee; great-great-grandchildren, Kylie  and  Gavin Suttell of Tennessee; great-great-grandchildren, Orie R. Glass, Jr. and  Addilynn Glass of Tennessee.

Mabel is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son and infant great-great-granddaughter, Kamryn Suttell.

No funeral services will be held due to the COVID-19 crisis. Interment will be at the Chariton Cemetery.
