Leslie McGinnis Obituary

Leslie Clyde McGinnis was born November 7, 1948 to Clyde Cleo and Hazel Mamie (Beall) McGinnis in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up and went to high school in Waukon, Iowa.  At the age of 17, Leslie entered the United States Marine Corps on April 20, 1966  through November 17, 1970 to serve his country proudly. During his years of military service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Marksmanship Badge, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and a Combat Action Ribbon. Leslie was proud to be a Marine. Later in life, Leslie went on with his education through DMACC in Sales and Business Management.

On March 16, 1974, Leslie married the love of his life Patricia Kay Gwinn in Indianola, Iowa.  Between them they had four children, Toni Agan, Tina Agan Renda, Tammy McGinnis and Gabriel McGinnis.  Leslie was a truck driver for Centennial Warehousing Corp. based out of Clive, Iowa until retiring on November 7, 2010.  He lived in Des Moines and Lucas his adult life.  Leslie was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church and the American Legion.

He enjoyed watching television with his wife.  He loved sports especially watching the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes.  Leslie liked to talk to his brother Jim over the phone about sports and life in general. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing chess. He always looked forward to spending time with family and friends. 

Leslie, 72, passed away October 16, 2021 at Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines, Iowa.                                                    

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kay (Gwinn) McGinnis of Lucas, his children, Toni (Kent) Agan of Ankeny, Tina Agan Renda of Lucas, Tammy McGinnis of Minburn, Gabriel (Julie) McGinnis of Norwalk, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, brother James McGinnis of Omaha, Nebraska, sister-in-law, Nancy Kunce of Grinnell, brother-in-law Robert (Donna) Gwinn of Johnston, brother-in-law, Garry (Lonnie) Gwinn of Chariton, and many nieces and nephews.

Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde McGinnis and Hazel McGinnis, brother Larry Kunce, mother-in-law, Agnes Ferrick Gwinn, father-in-law, Floydie Gwinn, sister-in-law, Carolyn Gwinn Coops and nephew Thomas McGinnis.
