Larry Dale Shanks

Larry Dale Shanks, 71, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at the Chariton Specialty Care in Chariton, Iowa.  Larry was born on November 26, 1950 at the Yocum Hospital in Chariton, Iowa to Ralph and Opal (Anderson) Shanks.  He lived southwest Derby with 9 siblings,  where he attended school at Mormon Trail.

After high school, Larry moved to Chariton for his employment.  He was a mechanic and loved working on cars so he opened his own body shop for a short time.  Larry, later started working as a mechanic for Darrah’s Garbage, keeping his trucks running.  Five years ago, Larry had to retire and move in the Chariton Specialty Care due to his stroke and failing health conditions. He was a quiet man and liked to do things on his own. Except when a family member would ask him to go fishing.

Larry is survived by his sisters, Myrtle Briner of Derby and Juanita Owens of Weldon, many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Opal Shanks, brothers, Walter, Robert, Ralph L., John, Ed, Don, Gail and Freddie James Shanks.  On line condolences may be left at www.fieldingfuneralhome.com.
