Karen McDonald Obituary

Karen Ann Mc Donald, 82, passed away with her family by her side on January 1, 2022 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton, Iowa.  Karen was in Williamson, Iowa to Burdette and Ferne Masters.  She attended school at the Chariton High School.

On May 26, 1957, she was united into marriage to Charles Robert McDonald at the Nazarene Church in Chariton, Iowa. Last year they celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Karen and Bob moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she attended night classes and worked at Peter Pan Bakery for 2 years.  When Bob got laid off, they moved back to Chariton and bought a farm in 1963.  Bob farmed and drove a bus route and Karen worked at the Hy-vee as an accountant for 42 years. In 2001 she retired. After retirement, Karen and Bob opened their home to take care of her mother for the next 16 years.

Karen was faithful to the Lord and his teachings.  She was a member of the Bible Holiness Church in Chariton, Iowa.  Karen’s life was dedicated to the Lord.  She housed many pastors and missionaries who came through and others in need. She was the secretary of the Church for many years, Treasurer for 40 years and she also was the organist and/or pianist for many years.  She was also noted for her great cooking, which she loved to do.  Everyone loves her pies and cakes. She is especially known for her famous peanut clusters and for the popcorn balls that she would make and hand out to Christmas carolers each December.  She would send meals out to anyone in need.

Karen was a giving and humble person.  Only the Lord knows how many people that she and her husband Bob have helped in many ways.

She was a wonderful pianist, Karen and her husband Bob would have friends, one especially, Floyd Storm, and family over to play and sing for hours.  One time Bob went to Russell to get a used piano and when they came back through Williamson, Floyd Storm sat in the back of the truck, he sang and played that piano as they passed the tavern.  They had so many joyous times serving the Lord and praising him.  Karen was a gift to all that knew her.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Burdette and Ferne Masters, brother Terry Masters and infant sister, Marilyn.

She is survived by her husband Bob McDonald, brothers, Rodney (Marilyn) Masters of Chariton, Iowa, Lanny (Linda) Masters of Humeston, Iowa, Danny (Becky) Masters of Williamson, Iowa, sister-in-law, Donna (James) Schneiber; along with many nieces and nephews.
