June Halferty Obituary

June Lorene (Devore) Halferty, 98, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at the Chariton Specialty Care in Chariton, Iowa.  June was born on February 4, 1924 in Van Wert, Iowa to Clyde M. and Ethel F (Gorsline) Devore.  She attended two country schools, Spring Valley at rural Van Wert and Riddle Rural at Woodland, Iowa.  Also attended Garden Grove and LeRoy High School.

Dean and June were neighbors growing up and they started dating. She moved to Chariton to rent a room to begin working as a telephone operator during the war.

Dean and June took a bus from Osceola to Kansas City, Missouri to get married. To this union they were bless with  eight children June Ann, Joyce, Dan, Mark, Mike, John, Jill and Jeff. June’s family was her world.

Dean and June started farming at Derby, Iowa for a least a year.  They moved and purchased a farm west of Millerton, lived there for about eight-teen years.  Then they purchased and moved North of Cambria where they continued to farm.  June would grow a big beautiful garden to help with feeding her family and would grow flowers on her farm too.  She loved to bake homemade bread and pies. Also she could make delicious meals out of about anything. June loved all animals, she would take care of them like they were her own children. June was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother.

On February 25, 1982, Dean passed away.  June kept herself busy helping and caring for people in her community that needed someone to care for them.  On weekends she would cook extra amounts of food so during the week she would deliver them to people that needed meals and had no one to care for them.  Also June would care for the elderly or the sick, she would go in their homes to make sure their needs were met.  She would clean their houses, if they needed her too she would stay the night with them.  As family was her first priority on Sundays after Church she would have a big delicious meals and great conversation.
