Julia Ann (Singleton) Spoon Obituary

Julia (Singleton) Spoon, 90 of Chariton passed peacefully on June 3, 2026, at the Southern Hills Specialty Care Center in Osceola Iowa.

Julia was born on April 25, 1936, to Roy and Fern Alice (Wells) Singleton in Indianola Iowa.  Spending much of her youth in Millerton Iowa with three brothers and a sister.   She attended school in Cambria, graduating in 1956.   She was united in marriage on December 19, 1958, to Loren “Skip” Spoon while he completed basic training at Fort Hood Texas.  She joined Skip in Germany during his overseas tour.  During this time, they developed lifelong friendships with two couples: Grant & Rita Stalkfleet and Ed & Lois Giberson.   Those years gave them all a very special bond for the remainder of their lives.  All the years after when they gathered together, there were always great stories to be told and reminiscing of all of their escapades.

Upon return from Germany, they were blessed with one son, Randy Spoon.  They moved between houses but remained in the Wayne and Lucas County areas for most of their marriage. Settling in their later years in Chariton. Julia worked at Spurgeons Department Store in Chariton and JC Penney in Cedar Rapids.

Julia is survived by one child, Randy (Molly) Spoon of Chariton.  Along with Grandchildren:  Cody (Molly) Spoon of Gladstone MO and Kaylee (Pete) Rios of Brighton CO. Along with three great grandchildren, Aria Rios, Oliver Spoon and Elliott Spoon.  One brother-in-law, Max Malone and one sister-in-law, Dianna Flickinger. And many nieces and nephews.

Julia is preceded in death by her husband, Loren Spoon and her parents, Roy & Fern Singleton. Brothers: Roy Jr., Robert and Loyed and one sister Burnetta Malone and one infant sister.
