Joyce Captolia (Gee) Grove

Joyce Captolia (Gee) Grove passed away at her home on Friday, March 4, 2022, at the age of 83. She was born on September 29, 1938 to Gerald Gee and Pearl (Casey) Gee. She attended Painted Post High School. In 1962, she married Charles Richard Grove.

Joyce was a homemaker during her twenty years as a military wife. She was an excellent seamstress and quickly made any home, apartment, or quonset seem like a stylish retreat as she followed wherever her husband’s career took them.  They eventually settled in Des Moines, Iowa, where she worked for several years at Kmart overseeing receiving and later part time for the Sun Valley Lake water system at Sun Valley Lake, Iowa. 

Upon full retirement, she and Chuck moved to Florida and enjoyed RV traveling, with yearly extended visits to family and friends in Colorado, Iowa, New York, and Texas. Family and friends were the most important aspect in life to Joyce. She stayed socially active through various clubs, weekly game gatherings, and volunteer work. She attended Bagdad United Methodist Church. She was an avid animal lover.

She is preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Charles Richard Grove, parents Gerald and Pearl Gee, son Randall Dean Grove, brothers Gerald Gee and Daniel Gee.

She is survived by daughter Debra (Jim) Young, daughter-in-law Susan Grove, grandchildren Shantel (Glennie) Nicholson, Justin (Sara) Grove, Alexis Joy (Gabriel) Roberts, six great-grandchildren, brother Thomas (Donna) Gee, and many loved nieces and nephews.

She will be missed and remembered as a compassionate, loving, and fun mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend. She bestowed wisdom, beauty, and humor to all those who knew her.

Memorial service and burial are planned to be on July 16, 2022, in Chariton, Iowa at Fielding Funeral Home.
