John Rex Stout passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17th, 2020 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. John was born in Chariton on December 17th, 1935 to parents Rex and Rosie (Shockey) Stout. After graduating from Chariton High School, he served his country by joining the Army. While in the Army, John was stationed in Germany. When he left the service, John spent most of his working years in the produce department at a grocery store in Miami Beach, Florida. In 1999, John returned to Chariton to be closer to his brother, Richard, and family. He made many friends while living at Autumn Park and making trips to Casey’s and the Hurri-Bak. John was a big sports fan. It was common to see him sporting the colors of his beloved Miami Dolphins and Iowa Hawkeyes. John loved to cheer on the Charger football and basketball teams, too. John lived a modest life, but made it a priority to support organizations like the VFW, March of Dimes, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
John is survived by his sister-in-law, Kae Stout; nephew Eric Dernovish, niece Richelle (Chris) Nielsen, nephew JJ (Shannon Holbrook) Stout; great nieces Madelynn (Tanner Sanders) Stout, Madeline Nielsen and Gracie Nielsen, great nephew Andru Nielsen, and a great, great nephew, Stetson Sanders, who held a special place in John’s heart.
Preceding John in death were his parents: Rex and Rosie Stout; infant sister, Beverly Jean Stout; and brother Richard Stout.
