Joanne Elizabeth Housman passed from this earth on May 27, 2023 at the age 94 years.  Family is inviting friends and family to join them at a visitation at the Fielding Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 30th with the funeral immediately following at 11:00 a.m.  Everyone is invited to the Grace Baptist Church for a luncheon following the service Burial will be after lunch at the Liberty Center Cemetery.

Joanne was born the only child of Coy and Fred Hayes in Oklahoma.  Her family had many Roots in Garden Grove, Iowa area.  One of her favorite “day out” adventures was riding through the derby and Garden Grove area relating stories from her childhood.

On July 3, 1943, Joanne married Cecil Housman. Not only did she gain a husband but also a huge family that loved her dearly and treated her as one of their own.

Jim and Joanne were blessed with six children, Judith, Perry, Patricia, Dennis, Freddie and Andy.  They began farming in 1954 and devoted their lives caring for their family and being good stewards of the land. They purchased the family farm south of Oakley, Iowa in 1956 where they remained until 1994 when they retired and moved to Chariton, Iowa.

Joanne accepted Christ as her personal savior when she was in her 60’s and remained strong in her faith. Which brought her peace and comfort till the end of her life on earth and the beginning of eternal life in Heaven.

Joanne was a wonderful grandma to 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. So many memories of homemade gifts, cookies, pies, Sleigh and wagon rides. So many pets around the farm.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Coy Albright and Fred Hayes, her husband of 54 years, Cecil, daughter, Patricia and son, Dennis. Also preceding her in death was grandson, Joseph and great-grandson Tyler, 4 great daughters-in-law and one son-in-law, her special companions, Lassie and Cocoa.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Judith (Ken) Mumford, her sons, Perry Housman, Freddie Housman and Andy Housman. Along with a host of other family members and friends.

Joanne loved to read, play the piano, quilt, garden and having a “spot of tea” with the girls of the family. She made many wonderful dishes for the grandkids and was a wonderful cook. She will be missed by as all and her memory cherished.

Eternally she’s resting now in a garden so fair and when Heaven looks upon her it sees the prettiest flower there.
