Joanne (Roberts) Andersen

Leora Joanne Andersen passed away on January 12, 2021, at Methodist hospital in Des Moines.

She was born May 19, 1930, in Croswell, Michigan, to Louis and Helen (Sheldon) Roberts.

Joanne attended school in California.  She married Silas Peter Andersen in Pomona, California, on July 9, 1947,  To this union was born seven boys: Louis, James, Paul, Silas, William, Charles, and Kevin.

Through the years, she worked in dime stores, at a ceramic tile plant, at Lucas Products, the Chariton Aluminum factory, and then began a sewing business in her home.  She was most proud of being a homemaker for the family.  She enjoyed canning, making jelly, going to garage sales, sewing, and reading.  She was proud to attend her grandchildren’s ball games and music programs.  She looked forward to holiday and birthday dinners with her family.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Bill DeWees, brother Lee Roberts, sister Mary Lou Campbell, sister Roberta Kurtz and sons Louis, Silas and Charles, and daughter-in-law, O-Sun.  She is survived by children, James (Debbie) Andersen, Paul (Sherrie) Andersen, William (Kristine) Andersen and Kevin (Sheila) Andersen; Daughter-in-law Beth Andersen; grandchildren, Justin, Amiee, Wucely, Lyn, Shelby, Misty, Chad, Chelsea, Tenneille, B.J., Olivia, Dylan, Erin, and Jackie, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Chariton Senior Citizens Center or to the Church of one’s choice.
