Jeremy James Leonard, age 38, of Chariton, Iowa passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

Jeremy was born on June 2, 1986, in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Michael and Beverly (Nickel) Leonard.  He attended the Chariton Schools and graduated with the class of 2005.  He later attended college for computer electronics.  Jeremy served his county for over 12 years with the Army National Guard.  He had an infectious personality and was a fun brother and a generous and loyal friend.  Jeremy had a love for animals, especially cats and dogs and was always bringing home a stray.  He enjoyed guns, computers and flying his drones.  He attended the Later Day Saints Church.  Jeremy had worked for Hy-Vee for many years; he worked at the Chariton and Winsor Heights stores and later as a supervisor at the short cuts commissary in Chariton.

Jeremy is survived by his parents, Michael and Beverley Leonard of Chariton, Iowa his brother William Leonard of Des Moines, Iowa, his daughters Alviee Evans and Fayelynn Leonard of Humeston, Iowa, and his grandmother Vera Nickel of Chariton, Iowa along with a host of friends.  He was preceded in death by his sister Angela Leonard and an infant brother Jacob Leonard, his paternal grandparents, Jack and Juanita Leonard and his maternal grandfather George Nickel.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 10:30 am at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton with burial to follow at the Chariton Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Monday, September 2, 2024, from 1:00 until 7:00 pm with the family receiving friends from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.   

A memorial has been established to Almost Home Animal Rescue in Chariton and contributions can be left at or mailed to the Fielding Funeral Home.
