Janie Garrett age 70, of Chariton, IA, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton, IA.

Janie was born on April 15, 1952 in Albia, IA the daughter of Leo and Barbara (Pirnat) Means.  She was raised in Albia, IA and attended the local schools until 8th grade.  The family moved to Lucas, IA and Janie finished her education and graduated from the Chariton High School with the class of 1970.  On June 6, 1970 Janie was united in marriage to Donald Garrett at the Presbyterian Church in Chariton.  Janie worked for the Sears store for a number of years before beginning her career with Hy-Vee, as a Customer Service Manager with the Graphics Department, a position she took very seriously and currently held.  She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi and Iowa Torchbearers Lambda sororities since 1994.  She was also involved with the Cub Scouts in Chariton.

Janie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Donald Garrett of Chariton, her sons, Steve and his wife Leasa Garrett of Indianola, IA and Scott and his wife Brandi Garrett of Tiffin, IA, her grandchildren, Collin Garrett and Ellie Garrett along with her siblings; Susan and her husband George Brown of Chariton, IA,  Diane Clark of Chariton, IA, David Means of Chariton, IA and Pat and his wife Pam Means of Leon, IA, several in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Dale and Gertie Ruffcorn and her brother-in-law Jerry Clark.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, IA.  Burial will follow at the Chariton Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Fielding Funeral Home from 12:00 Noon until 7:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.  A memorial has been established to the Vision II Theater, Projector Fund and contributions may be mailed to or left at the funeral home.  The Fielding Funeral Home of Chariton, IA is honored to care for and minister to the Garrett Family at this time.
