Janice Marie Hovey

Janice Marie( McClary) Hovey , 86, passed peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at the Chariton Specialty Care in Chariton, Iowa.  Janice was born on January 16, 1937 to Dorothy Mae McClary in Spring Valley Minnesota.

On October 1, 1952, Janice married the love of her life Jerry Veryl Hovey of Lime Springs, Iowa. To this union , they were blessed with four children, Bonnie (Steve) Sanders , Kim (Tom) McGee, Rick (Dolly) Hovey, Percy Hovey.

Janice and Jerry lived on the family farm North East of Lime Springs, Iowa where they farmed most of their lives. It was a great place to raise their four children. Later in life, Janice went to work in a factory in Le-Roy, Minnesota and a gas station in Lime Springs. Janice loved working jobs in their small towns as it was easier to catch up on all of the local gossip. Anyone that knows Janice knows her favorite phrase is “Holy Balls.” That phrase has been used so much it rubbed off on some of her grandchildren. Everyone will remember her kindness, the way she joked around with family and friends.  Her family and friends knew she was just around the corner if they needed her.

She loved spending time with all of her grandchildren, Janice was so proud of them all. She had 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Janice is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild, her siblings, Charles (Judy) McClary, Randy (Rene) Anderson.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, her son Rick, son-in-law, Steve, great-grandchildren, Raven, Wesley and Mackenzie, her brother, Robert McClary.

Services will be held at the Saetersdal Norwegian Lutheran Church (address: 21477 County Rd 30 Harmony MN) at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2023.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Interment will be held following the services at Saetersdal Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery with a family gather after at the Church. Services are under the direction of Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton Iowa.
