James (Willie) Williams, 77, of Chariton ,IA passed away on July 26, 2020 of Multiple Myeloma at home surrounded by his family. Willie was born in Iowa City, Iowa on February 21, 1943 to Dewey and Delorsia Williams. He graduated from Chariton High School in 1961. After high school, he served in the National Guard. He began his 32 year career with the Secondary Road Maintenance Department for Lucas County Iowa, retiring in 2008. Following Retirement, Willie enjoyed working part time mowing and maintaining the grounds at the Chariton Cemetery.
On July 2, 1966, he married Anita Brewer of Millerton, Iowa and to this union, had two children, Lori and Scott. In addition to his children, he welcomed the addition of three grandsons; Benjamin Tallman , Jerrick and Daven Williams.
Willie loved watching Wrestling, Football and old Westerns, going to the movies, traveling and spending time with his family and having coffee with his buddies.
Willie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anita Williams of Chariton, daughter Lori (Williams) Millard of Urbandale, IA and son Scott Williams of Chariton, three grandsons; Benjamin Tallman of Urbandale, IA and Jerrick and Daven Williams of West Wendover, NV. Sister in law, Barb Williams, nieces Robin Williams, Laurie Williams, and Jen (Brett) Tjepkes. Nephew, LeRoy (Sue) Terrell, niece Kim (Toby)Dhabolt. Sister in law, Carolyn Brinkley; nephews Garry (Sandy) Brinkley and Bryan(Brenda) Brinkley. Sister in law Verla (David) Pitzen; nephews Michael Pitzen and Bill (Karla) Pitzen. Sister in law Connie (Robert) Risbeck; niece Nicole (Grant) Shultz and nephew Ryan (Heather) Risbeck. Along with many great nieces and nephews.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents Dewey and Delorsia Williams, infant sister Diana Williams, sisters Virginia Strebin, Helen (Olan) Terrell and brother Chuck Williams. Neice Starlet Corbett, nephews Walter and Jimmy Terrell, along with brother in laws Kenneth and Daryl Brewer and Keith Brinkley.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in his name to the American Cancer Society. A celebration of life is planned for a later date. Willie’s laughter and kind, gentle nature will be missed by many.
