On April 6, 1939, James Edward Stone was born to parents, George Thomas Stone and Marguerite Louise Bergman, in Chariton, Iowa. He was their 3rd son. His older brothers, Dick and Jerry were quite an influence on him. They enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing and other activities.
Jim loved collecting rocks and he enjoyed animals. He collected baby fox and kept them in a cage, he also had a huge snake in a jar.
Jim had a vast knowledge of rocks and he loved showing off the arrowheads he collected out by the steams in the area of his home in Lucas County.
James’s mother died when he was only 11, his dad raised him and allowed Jim to help with the Seed and Fur business in Chariton, Iowa. Jim loved homemade fudge and made a lot of it. When his nieces were young, they would sneak upstairs to watch TV with their uncle and eat fudge.
For the last 30 years or so, Jim has resided at various institutions, most recently at Davis Center in Bloomfield, Iowa. Jim passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021 after a brief illness at Davis Center.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and nephew, Jerry. He is survived by his nieces, Caren (Joe) Krutsinger, Carolyn (Jerome) Hoxton, Lou (Ed) Endicott and one nephew, Richard (Carol) Stone and 7 great nieces and nephews and 12 great-great nieces and nephews.
