James Pearl Snook Obituary

James Pearl Snook, 85, passed away on January 16, 2025, at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton, Iowa. James was born on March 5, 1939, in Melrose, Iowa to Dean and Frances (Barger) Snook. He lived around Derby, Iowa and attended school at the Derby Community Schools.

On March 21, 1959, he was united in marriage to Anita Greer in Bethany, MO. To this union, three sons were born, Jeff, Steve and Paul. James and Anita lived on a farm outside of Derby where they raised their family, he lived on the same farm for 66 years. 

James was a farmer all his life. He enjoyed gardening and he would make sure he shared the fruits of his labor with everyone. When he was younger, he was a real pool shark, he enjoyed playing pool. He also liked playing cards, cribbage and going to the casino and betting on horse races.  James would go into Derby to have coffee with the guys and catch up on the farmer’s gossip. He enjoyed relaxing in his chair watching Westerns, new and old it didn’t matter to him and the Hallmark Channel, Golden Girls and Reba, sometimes he would watch some football.

Left to mourn his death are his sons, Jeff (Shelly) Snook of Carlisle, Steve (Lisa) Snook, Eastvale, CA, grandchildren, Brianna Snook, Adam (Samantha) Snook, Jacob Snook, Joshua Snook, Joseph Snook, Kelsie Snook and Brandon Snook, great-grandchildren, Hunter, Coleson, Elle and Lane Snook, Alexander Snook, Jaxon and Kennedy Snook, Stephen Ward, siblings, Burl Snook, Ivan Snook, Sandra (Rick) Wade, sister-in-law, Gladys Erb and many nieces, nephews and friends.

James is preceded in death by his wife, Anita, son, Paul, parents, Dean and Frances Snook, in-laws, Vernie and Martha Greer, sister, Shirley Colewell, brothers-in-law, Charles Erb, Jim Ray Young, Jack Colwell, sister-in-law, Betty Snook and nephews Jaime Young and Rick Snook. He was loved and will be miss by many.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa. Visitation will be held 11-1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the funeral home. Interment will be held following the funeral at the Humeston Cemetery in Humeston, Iowa. The serving Pallbearers are Jacob Snook, Joshua Snook, Brandon Snook, Kelsie Snook, Adam Snook, Brianna Snook, Alexander Snook, Joseph Snook.
