James Polo Obituary

James Paul Polo was born August 9, 1940 to Giovanni (John) and Madelyn (Maggie) Vairo Polo in Williamson, Iowa. He was welcomed into this home by sister, Mary Ann Polo Mundy and brother Johnny.  Jim died at his home on September 5, 2021 with his wife, granddaughter and special niece, Chris Keeler by his side. Jim grew up in Williamson living, working and raising his four children with Joan Parson most of his young life.  He was a hard working family man, working as a custodian for Chariton Community Schools in Williamson and Chariton until his retirement. A quiet, gentle man, once you were included into his circle you discovered a man with many interests, hobbies and a great sense of humor. Jim met his wife Joyce Thorne Polo in late 1989 on a double date with Merrian Westman, Joyce’s co-worker and Beverly Westman, Jim’s co-worker.  They combined their household in 1992 and flew off to Las Vegas, Nevada to be wed on May 15. Together they traveled, fished, mushroomed, picked berries, went nutting and went on excursions with their Iowa Archeology Club.  A friend once asked Joyce if she was sure this was a healthy relationship because she was sun burnt, ate up with chiggars and covered with a plant based rash during their first months together. Jim deeply loved his family always making sure not to intrude in their lives and their growing families. He leaves to mourn his wife Joyce and granddaughter Novala Downing, children Cindy, Kelly, Wrandy,  Dave, Sharla Anderson and  their  spouses and families. Jim especially loved his grandchildren, Dusty and Ashley Dawson, Jevon Polo and Lindsey Braaksma, Holly McFall, Sam and Seth Polo and Saulan, Irelan, Italy and Caleb Rew.  Preceding Jim in death are his parents and siblings.  Also grandchildren Maddie Kae Polo, Cydnie G. Hixson and  Alexandra Rew.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Pin Oak Marsh of Chariton, Williamson Community Center or Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association.
