Geri Lu (Vairo) Prothero, 71, passed peacefully on May 30, 2026 at Wesley Acres in

Des Moines Iowa. Geri was born on January 6, 1955 to James Peter and Wilma

(McFarland) Vairo. Geri had 11 brothers and sisters.

She leaves behind 3 beloved children. Kathleen (Will) Redwine of Pembroke Pines

Florida, Heidi Vairo of Clive Iowa, and Tyler (Taylor Eidson) Vairo of Des Moines Iowa.

She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren that brought her immense pride and happiness.

Brandon, Casey, Dominic, Maddox, Sierra, Devion, and Maverick.

Geri was a member of Cornerstone Church where she was the leader of the Prison

Card Ministry. She enjoyed genealogy, playing cards and organizing events for her

friends and neighbors at Autumn Park Apartments. It was there that Geri met her best

friends Garrett and Korena.

Geri was preceded in death by her parents, James Peter and Wilma Vairo, sisters

Jayne, Merrijo, Marguerite, and very special sister Joan, and her brothers Wayne,

Jimmy, Donald, Pete, and twin brother Gari.

Geri is survived by her children and grandchildren; sisters Joey Farrell and Cindy

(Gerald) Briggs, as well as many extended family members and friends including former

husband, Bud Prothero, who remained a part of her life, his daughter, Ericka (Greg)

Prothero, their children, and his son Edwin Prothero.
