George Erwin Brown, age 67 of Chariton, Iowa passed away surrounded by his family and many nurses that loved him on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Corydon, Iowa.

George was born on August 27, 1957, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Earl and Bonnie (Morton) Brown Jr. He was raised in Chariton and attended the local schools.  George was united in marriage to Susan Means on March 19, 1976. George had driven a semi for 30 years before going to work for Herberger Construction of Indianola with their bridge crew.  George loved being around people and will be remembered for teasing, his funny faces, playing ball with Tucker, or just sitting outside watching the neighborhood kids.  He loved to collect Dale Earnhardt memorabilia, NASCAR items and watching WWE.  George was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Chariton. 

George is survived by his wife Susan Brown of Chariton, Iowa, his daughters: Stacy (Carlton) Vinsick of Indianola, Iowa, Karen (Jeff) Thomas of Chariton, Iowa and Stephanie Brown of Chariton, Iowa, his grandchildren whom he adored: Makayla, Elexa and Emmy Vinsick and Taylan and Tucker Thomas, his brother Charlie (Dee) Brown, his sisters Carolyn Hogue of Chariton, Iowa and Mary (Greg) Collins of Chariton, Iowa along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephew, cousins and friends.

George was preceded in death by his mother Bonnie in 2005, his father Earl in 2016, his brother-in-law Darrell Riggs, his sister Linda Brown Riggs, his brother Butch Brown and brother-in-law Billy Hogue.

Memorial services will be held at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:00 am with Pastor Paul Miller officiating. Burial will follow the services at the Chariton Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Fielding Funeral Home.  A memorial has been established to the family’s choice and contributions can be left at or mailed to the Fielding Funeral Home.
