Evalene Beverly Paxton

Beverly Evalene Paxton, age 86 of Humeston passed away on August 4, 2023, at her home in Humeston surrounded by her loving family. 

Evalene was born on April 14, 1937, in Pleasantville, Iowa, the daughter of Mel and Mamie (Howsare) Koons.  She attended school in Chariton and graduated from Knoxville High School in Knoxville, Iowa.  Evalene was united in marriage to James H. Paxton on March 24, 1956, at the Norwood Evangelical Brethren Church.  She worked as a billing clerk at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and later would work in the library at Simpson College and then for Communication Data Services in Des Moines where she would retire from.  Evalene enjoyed the outdoors collecting rocks and raising flowers along with collecting music boxes and crocheting, knitting, and sewing, genealogy and was active with 4H. 

Evalene is survived by her husband James Paxton of Humeston, her sons, James David (April) Paxton of Des Moines, Iowa and Donald Dean (Denise) Paxton of Carlisle, Iowa, her grandchildren: Kenny (Lexi) Paxton, Tony Paxton, Morgan (Grace) Paxton, Kasey Paxton-Hayes, Shae (Colby) Lynch and several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, her son Allen Paxton in November 2006, 4 half-brothers and 1 half-sister. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 3:00 pm at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the funeral home.  Cremation will follow the services.  Private burial will follow at a later date at the Humeston Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be given to the family’s choice and left at or mailed to the funeral home.
