Dorothy Jean (Campbell) McMurray, age 88, passed peacefully away, November 22, 2024 at Mercy-One Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa after a long illness. Jean was born March 17, 1936 in Chariton, Iowa to William and Eleanor (James) Campbell. She and her siblings were raised in the small town of Chariton. In 1954, Jean graduated from Chariton  Community High School.

Jean married Ronald (Ron) William McMurray in Des Moines, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born Patrick John and Timothy Paul. They made their home in Des Moines, Iowa where Jean work at Westinghouse Electric then ABB when it purchased Westinghouse. After retirement she worked at Prairie Meadows. Later Jean and Ron was divorced.

On February 11, 1970, to much sadness,  she lost her oldest son Timothy as a young child. He was a wonderful boy taken so early.  Jean’s memory of him lived on, “I miss your little hands, holding mine”. Only time and tears take away the grief.

Jean has always left an incredible impression on those who knew her.  She had a radiant smile, compassionate heart and captivated everyone who had the chance to know her.

She loved to play pool. Jean could control the cue ball! She won several trophies for 1st place in pool tournaments. Jean was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents William and Eleanor Campbell, her son, Timothy Paul, her siblings, Marjorie Littleton, Doris Payne, Michael Campbell.

She is survived by her son, Patrick John, her nieces, Verla Benway, Connie (Noel) Allen, her nephews,  Mark (Mary) Littleton, Steve (Becky) Payne, John (Lorene) Payne, Brian (Skywalker) Payne and numerous other relatives and friends.

Jean, Our world isn’t as colorful without you here, but we are grateful for the love and memories we continue to feel for you. You will be greatly missed by all.
