Doris Clark Obituary

Doris Elaine (Wolett) Clark, daughter of Wilber Culbertson Wolett and Inez Irene (Storie) Wolett was born on April 12, 1932, at home in Warren Township near Derby, Iowa.  She passed away October 12, 2022, at Westview Acres Nursing Home in Leon, Iowa.  Doris’s early childhood days were spent attending school through the 8th grade at Warren Center, a one room school in Lucas County.  She often told her children stories of being chased by hobos who were trying to get their lunches.  After the 8th grade, she attended high school in Derby, Iowa where she played basketball, was the yearbook editor and began her courtship with Kenneth Clark.  She graduated from Derby High School with the class of 1950.

On October 15, 1950, Doris was united in marriage to Kenneth Wayne Clark at the Derby United Methodist Church.  This union welcomed four children: Sandra Dianne, Allen Wayne, Peggy Melinda, and Byron Dean.  Doris and Kenneth lived near Derby, Iowa until 1953 when they moved to a farm southwest of Knoxville, Iowa where they lived until the spring of 1955 when they moved back to a farm near Derby.  They lived on the farm until the fall of 1998 when they moved to Humeston, Iowa.

Doris was a wife and mother for many years where you could find her being a girl scout leader, assisting with 4-H projects and attending one of her children’s many activities.  Doris worked in Chariton, Iowa at Chariton Lumber until 1975 when she started to work for Hy-Vee Food Stores Corporate Offices in the accounting department until she retired in April of 1995.  In her free time, Doris loved to go square dancing most weekends, travel, camp, attend bluegrass music festivals, garden, and sew.  Doris was a member of the Derby United Methodist Church and the Humeston Christen United Methodist Church.

In 1997 Doris and Kenneth spent the first of several winters in Alamo, Texas.  In February of 2000 they purchased a home at Trophy Gardens Resort where even after Kenneth’s passing in 2003, Doris continued to spend her winters until April of 2017.  She loved her time in Alamo where she often talked about the new friends she met, stayed active traveling, and took up new hobbies like whittling, painting, shuffleboard (she even won a tournament on a cruise ship), and dirty board.

As Doris got older, she often spent weekends with her family and friends sitting around her kitchen table where they would talk and play cards for hours.  Doris was even known to take a nap or two at the table.  She somehow always managed to keep everyone in order and never missed a beat in the kitchen.  You could always count on her to have a pot of her famous beef and noodles on the stove or some homemade bread in the machine.  She also enjoyed playing scrabble with the “girls” or going to her grandchildren or great grandchildren’s many activities.

Doris is proceeded in death by Kenneth W. Clark (husband of 52 ½ years), Wilber C. Wolett (father), Inez I. Wolett (mother), sisters Peggy J. Brown, Wilma L. Poole and infant sister Mary Ann, brothers Howard D. Wolett and Darl W. Wolett, and son-in-law Steven R. LeMaster.

She is survived by her children, S. Dianne LeMaster of Radcliff, Kentucky; Allen W. Clark (Marjorie) of Trenton, Missouri; Peggy M. Rash of Humeston, Iowa; and Byron D. Clark (Ana) of Ankeny, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Angela Wickware (Jon) of Ankeny, Iowa; Shala LeMaster of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Andrew Rash (Holly) of Leon, Iowa; Adam Clark (Sara) of Saint Joseph, Missouri, Ashley LeMaster of Fort Knox, Kentucky; Ashley Mulder (Josh) of Des Moines, Iowa; Amber Frazier (Dylan) of Gulf Shores, Alabama; and Ana Luz (Anita) Clark of Ankeny, Iowa; her 11 great grandchildren, Maddox Kistler; Lauren Barney; Amiyah LeMaster; Aiden Clark; Levi Wickware; Hattie Rash; Clara Rash; Brantley Noe;  Philamena (Mila) Clark; Ada Mulder and Eli Mulder; and her sister, Linda Bjorn of Safety Harbor, Florida.
