David Jurgens Obituary

David Glenn Jurgens was born  January 12, 1942 in Omaha Nebraska, to William Jurgens and Petrina Christiansen.  They lived on the family farm at Fort Crook, NE then later they moved to Papillion, NE, where Dave graduated from Papillion High School in 1959.  Dave was an excellent student, and active is many activities always connected to music, continuing that love of singing throughout his lifetime. His good friends from high school, Elmer & Nancy Young, and Jon and Helen Kuhl still keep in close contact.

He married his high school sweetheart, Sharel Duckworth, September 3, 1961 at St Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Omaha, Nebraska.  Their two sons David Wayne and Dana Jay were born in Omaha, and Dave worked at H.P. Smith Ford, and later with Bell Telephone systems. The family moved to Chariton Iowa, to the farm east of Chariton, where Walter William was born.  Besides always working full time at the telephone company, he raised cattle, sheep, and goats, and an assortment of pets made their home with them.  Just short of their 55th anniversary, David lost Sharel on May 29, 2016.

Dave later became reacquainted with a neighbor, who had also lost a spouse, and in visiting, they realized they had many things in common, especially being life long Lutherans.  He and Linda Shriver, nee Olson, were married July 7, 2018, and enjoyed their new life, sharing families, traveling, gardening (Dave raised beautiful and plentiful tomatoes, especially heirlooms,  and flowers (Linda’s love) and of course their church families. In February 2020 Dave battled a sudden but continuous illness, and although he battled it hard, it took his life Wednesday February 10. 2021.  This man, who had ran many 5Ks, walked and exercised, loved a good game of Cribbage, worked hard, is now at rest in the arms of Christ.

Dave was a member many years at St John Lutheran in Melcher Iowa, later joining First Lutheran in Chariton, when he and Linda married.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  brother Richard (Dick) Jurgens, and brother in-law Bert (Sonny) Sinnett.
