Corey Joe Darrah, 61, passed away at Methodist Hospital on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Corey was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis and was grateful to have had a successful liver transplant in 1999. In 2019 Corey’s kidneys failed and Corey began dialysis several days a week, with a determination to persevere. Corey was born September 14, 1962 to Bill and Jo (Powell) Darrah in Chariton, Iowa. Corey was baptized at Disciples of Christ Church in Chariton, Iowa. He graduated from Chariton High School in 1980 and earned a degree from Missouri Institute of Technology. Except for short stints working in Phoenix, Arizona and Des Moines, Iowa, Corey spent his life in Chariton helping with the family business. On July 10, 2010, Corey married Gayle Morrison and together they had a son, Kateo. Kateo was a constant source of pride and inspiration to Corey. Corey enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and watching sports, especially the Kansas City Royals. Corey was an avid collector and known as a bit of a wheeler-dealer. Those close to Corey appreciated his sense of humor and his willingness to help and support others, and admired his strength and will to live. Survivors include his son Kateo; Gayle (daughters Mackenzie and Kelsey Devore); his mother Jo Darrah; siblings Darcy Darrah (Chris Thoemke), Chad (Kim) Darrah, and Dana Darrah. Corey’s nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends will also mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Darrah and his brother, Cole Darrah. Online condolences can be left on Fielding’s memorial tribute at www.fieldingfunernalhome.com. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial donations can be made to the Corydon Dialysis Center.
