Carol Morrison Obituary

Carol Jean (McKnight) Morrison, passed away on December 26, 2020 at Chariton Specialty Care.  She was 87 years old.

Carol was born on December 21, 1933 to Rufus Lloyd McKnight and Clara Margaret (Bassett) McKnight.  She grew up on a farm near Liberty in Clarke County and attended Chariton High School.  Carol and Edgar C. Morrison, Jr. were united in marriage on May 24, 1951.  They spent their life in Chariton, where three children came to bless their marriage.

After high school, Carol worked several jobs, including almost 20 years as an assistant in the Lucas County Auditor’s Office until her retirement in 1990.  She had fond memories of her time at the courthouse, and considered many of the people with whom she worked to be close friends.  Carol and Junior traveled and camped in their RV throughout their married life, and following their retirement spent several years wintering in Arizona.  Carol continued to correspond with those they met during those winters.  Carol also reconnected in later years with her close friend from high school, Betty Paschall, whose friendship was dear to her.  She lived her last years at the Charitone, and thoroughly enjoyed her time there with new and old friends.

Carol’s family was everything to her.  Her grandchildren always knew that if you went to Gramma Carol’s house, you were going to be well fed—whether you were hungry or not.  Outings with her children—from shopping or the casino with Deb and Diane to camping and fishing trips with Don and his boys—were a source of fun times and happy memories for her and her family; and road trips, camping, and fishing with Gramma Carol and Grampa Junior are among their grandkids’ favorite memories.  Carol adored her great-grandchildren, most of whom will have their own memories of her to treasure.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, six brothers, and four sisters, and is survived by one brother, Larry McKnight of Indianola.  She will be dearly and lovingly missed by her children Diane (Jim) Taylor, Deb (Ron) Voss, and Don (Carol) Morrison; her grandchildren Becky (Matt) Kalas, Scott (Jayme) Taylor, Ron (Tina) Voss, Heather (Andrew Hemphill) Reed, Jeff (Amanda) Morrison, and Cullen (Jazmin) Morrison; and great-grandchildren Clara and Hadley Kalas; Jaime, Jordyn, Miranda, T.J., and Brenley Taylor; Riley and Maddi Voss and Maddison, Nate, and Kendall Hardie; Dylan Reed; Breckin and Chase Morrison; and Rhea and Luna Morrison.

Graveside services is held Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chariton Cemetery with Pastor David Hobbs officiating.  Pallbearers were Scott Taylor, Ron Voss, Jeff Morrison, Cullen Morrison, Dylan Reed, and Riley Voss.  Honorary pallbearers were Breckin Morrison and Chase Morrison.

Carol asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Chariton or to the Chariton Specialty Care activities fund.
