Thomas "Tom" J. Allen

March 11, 1942 ~ June 9, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old


Thomas J. Allen, 75, passed away June 9, 2017. Tom was born March 11, 1942 in Chariton, IA to Keith and Dorothy Allen.

He was a 1960 graduate of Chariton High School and 1965 graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia with a degree in business finance.

In 1965 Tom married Maria Louisa “Miki” Many at A.P. Green Chapel on the campus of University of Missouri. Following college graduation Tom and Miki moved to New York City where Tom worked for the Ethyl Corporation.

In 1966 Tom was drafted to the United States Army and served in Vietnam in 1968. After his tour of duty, he and Miki moved to Atlanta, GA while Tom worked for Aetna Life and Casualty. In Atlanta he also purchased his first gas station. Baton Rouge, LA was home for Tom, Miki, Charles, Melinda and Keith from 1972-1979. Tom owned and ran Tom Allen’s Texico and Greenwell Springs Mobile.

In 1979 Tom and the family moved back to Chariton, IA. Tom joined his mother in business at D’Allen’s Fashions then opened TJ Allen’s Fashions in Albia, MO. While living in Chariton Tom also owned Tom’s Bargain Warehouse.

“For some of us there is therapy for the rest of us there is Motorcycles,” Tom and Miki spent countless hours on the bike, whether a casual ride with friends and family, charity events and numerous vacations traveling the States enjoying life. Their love and laughter was known by many friends and Tom’s smiling face was always a welcoming sight when he walked in the door. He will be missed greatly by so many and the stories of fond memories will last forever.

Tom was a devoted grandfather to Morgan and Madeline Allen and Alyson and Cassidy Miller.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and son L. “Keith” Allen. He is survived by his wife Miki Allen, son Senator Chaz (Teri) Allen of Newton and grandchildren children Morgan and Madeline, daughter Melinda Allen Miller of Springfield, MO and grandchildren Alyson and Cassidy Miller, brother Larry (Evonne) Dean Allen and children, Lindsey Kirby, Brian Allen and Paige Pszczolkowski.
