Thelma J. Holmes of Williamson passed peacefully from this life surrounded by family on January 6, 2018 at the age of 75.  Thelma was born December 13, 1942 to Theda and Lester Gerkey.  She was raised in Chariton Iowa where she met and married Larry Holmes in 1962 and had 6 children, divorcing in 1976.

Thelma worked several jobs and was considered a “jack of all trades” as there was nothing she couldn’t do.  Thelma enjoyed spending time with family, friends and helping anyone she could.  In her younger years she loved softball, bowling, being outdoors and was a member of the Chariton Valley Players and appeared in many plays, even building the sets and costumes.  Thelma did attend the National Education Center and graduated in 1989 with a degree in computer repair. Thelma purchased the Williamson Tavern in 1990 and ran it successfully her entire life.

She will be sadly missed by her children Tod Holmes, Lori Logue, Rachel (Tim) Ruepke and Jennifer Holmes, her 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Her siblings include Sharon (Carl) Stoffer, Georgene (Glenn) Graydon, Dean Gerkey, Teri Cihak and Ann (Glen) Fried.  She was predeceased by her parents Theda and Lester Gerkey, sons Doug Meyer, Willy Holmes and brother Francis (Butch) Gerkey.
