Macil Hiatt Obituary

Macil Marie (Lyon) Hiatt was born in New London, Iowa to Johnie and Esther (Kirkpatrick) Lyon on August 5, 1934. She was the oldest and loved her siblings, Donald, Opal, and Leona deeply.

Macil graduated from New London High School. Then she went to AIB College of Business in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from there with her Associate of Arts Degree.

Macil’s son and love of her life was born in September of 1959. Along with becoming a Mom and the love of her career at the Banker’s Life/Principle Financial were her pride and joys. After 40 years, she officially retired. However, Principal  had asked her to return to work. She then retired, again, 10 years later.

Macil purchased her first home in Polk City in 1971. Doug was continually introducing Macil to his friends and she loved them all unconditionally. You could find Macil and her boys mushroom hunting, fishing, or just being together. This is also when she met and fell in love with Ronad Hiatt, with this marriage she gained more children Deanna and Ronnie.

After Ron passed away and with Macil retirement, she moved to Humeston, Iowa in 1997. She met Walt Standler, they enjoyed life in each other’s company. After Walt’s passing, Macil met her special friend, Gaylord Hart. They spent many hours traveling to family events and to Bluegrass Jambarees.

Macil liked knitting, mowing, fishing, going to church and volunteering at the Humeston Senior center was a major part of her life. Although, her heart soared and her face would light up with joy and love at the mention of her granddaughter, Rebecca.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Doug Adrian (Darla Rash), Deanna (Randy) Mutchler, and Ronnie Hiatt; her siblings, Donald (Sandy) Lyon, Opal (Bob) Young, and Leona (Nick) Laybon; her grandchildren, great grandchildren, who she loved dearly; and nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Macil touched so many people in her lifetime and she always left you feeling loved. She loved life’s journey and looked forward to her everlasting life. Preceding her in death were her parents; spouse, Ronald Haitt; and her special friend, Walt.

Macil passed way with her family by her side Friday, March 1, 2019 at the age of 84 years.

Macil was an angel in life and with her death, we will always have a special guardian angel.
