Lynn Elwood Hammons, 78, passed away December 17, 2017 in Chariton, Iowa. Lynn was born September 23, 1939 to John Franklin McKinley Hammons and Ella (Cheeseman) Hammons in LA Plata, Missouri. Lynn graduated from the Ethel Missouri High School and went on to attend Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, now known as Truman University in Kirksville, Missouri.

Lynn was a teacher for seven years in Iowa Elementary Schools, before taking a job with the City of Chariton in the wastewater treatment plant. Lynn was united in marriage with Norma Jean Bowers on June 8, 1962 in Sewal, Iowa. To this union was born two sons, Darin and Rick.

Lynn enjoyed hunting and vacationing with his family. He accepted Jesus Christ before he became engaged to Norma and enjoyed taking his family to Church.  He attended Corydon Bible Church for several years and in the later years attending Cornerstone Family Church in Chariton.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma, brothers Donald Hammons, John Hammons, Clarence Hammons, Leland Hammons, Laverne Hammons, sisters Winona Sill and Rosalyn Hammons. 

Left to cherish his memories are son Rick and his wife Michelle of Albia, grandson Colton Hammons; son Darin Hammons of Chariton, grandchildren Doug DeJong, Elizabeth (Ben) McFarland; great grandchildren Bently and Paisley McFarland, and Sister Velda Clayton. Along with many extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
