Lloyd “LaVern” Massman passed peacefully away on the morning of Monday, October 1, 2018 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa. LaVern was 84 years old.
LaVern was born in Mystic, Iowa to Lloyd J. and Martha Massman. He attended high school in Moravia, Iowa and graduated with honors in the class of 1953. LaVern has two children, Mary and Brant Massman and one grandchild, Bianca Massman.
LaVern was an avid cattleman and was nationally recognized as one of the top Club Calf salesmen and fitters. He spent his life working in the cattle business and it was his dearest passion. LaVern and his children showed and sold some of the finest cattle in the United States. His love of the farm and livestock was passed down to his granddaughter Bianca who is a national champion equestrian.
In 2009 LaVern married Matina Dee Anderson in Corydon, Iowa and they lived east of Corydon on a farm with their cattle, dogs and cats. LaVern and Tina loved working in the yard and garden and around the farm.
LaVern was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Martha Massman, his step-father, Ed Navin, his sister Helen Printy and her husband Pat Printy; his mother-in-law, Marcia Gurwell and his son-in-law, Richard Musco.
LaVern is survived by his wife, Tina Massman from Corydon, Iowa, his daughter, Mary Massman, his son, Brant Massman, both of Las Vegas, Nevada, and his granddaughter Bianca Massman; his brother, Gordon and wife, Shirley Massman from Centerville, Iowa; and many extended family and friends.
