Joseph Michael Housman was born June 2, 1979 to parents, Freddie and Sue (Leonard) Housman of Chariton, Iowa. He passed away August 7, 2018 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 39 years.
Joseph is survived by his father, Freddie Housman of Omaha, Nebraska; his brother, John, sister-in-law, Nicole (Stotts) and nephews, Evan Scott and Simon Leonard Housman of Norwalk, Iowa; his grandmother, Joanne Housman of Chariton, Iowa; his Aunt Judy(Housman) and Ken Mumford of Russell, Iowa; his Uncle Perry and Cindy Housman of Grants Pass, Oregon, Uncle Dennis Housman of Monet, Missouri, Uncle Andy Housman of Atlantic, Iowa, Uncle Mike and Beverly Leonard of Chariton, Iowa. A large family of cousins and friends mourn Joe’s passing.
Preceding Joe in death his mother, Sue (Leonard) Housman; his grandfather, Cecil Housman; his grandparents, Herbert and Juanita Leonard; his aunt and uncle, Patty (Honana) and Gary Baker.
Joe attended elementary school in Lucas, Iowa, middle and High School in Chariton, Iowa with the graduating Class of 1998.
Joe worked for many years at various Hy-Vee store locations. Joe enjoyed Nascar races, music, and visiting with friends and family. Among his favorite memories were the annual family fishing trips to Minnesota. Joe loved family and friends. He often spoke affectionately of those family members and friends that had helped him along life’s path. Joe also felt a great passion of sadness for those who battled with chemical dependencies. His heart went out for those less fortunate, such as the homeless society in Iowa. Joe will be greatly missed by those closest to him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hope Charities USA, Hope Ministry-Bethel Mission, Iowa or the Animal Rescue League.
