Georgia Ann Black, 81, of Chariton, passed away March 20, 2017 at Southern Hills

Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa. Georgia was born August 5, 1935 to Arlene (Allen) and

Robert (J.R.) Black in Osceola, Iowa. She was the oldest of their four children raised on

the family farm in Lucas County.

She attended grade school at Puckerbrush, a one-room country school now located on the

grounds of the Lucas County Historical Society. After graduating from Chariton High

School, Georgia received a degree in education from Fort Wayne Bible College in

Indiana. Her first teaching job was at her alma mater, Puckerbrush, where one of the

students was her sister. After 2 years, she accepted a job at Washington Center

Elementary back in Fort Wayne. She spent the remainder of her 35 year career there,

except for 2 years spent teaching at Canadian Academy in Kobe, Japan. She enjoyed

reading, travelling and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her brother, Glen of Lucas; sister, Betty of Glendale, Arizona; sister-

in-law, Virginia of Knoxville; nephews, Willy (Deb) and Galen (Tammy) of Chariton;

niece, Robin of Dusseldorf, Germany; great nephew, Colton; great nieces, Briellyn,

Elyssa and Lindsay; great-great nephew Camden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bob; nephew, Ron Black. Services

will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Fielding Funeral Home in

Chariton. Interment will be at Bethel Chapel Cemetery.
