Edward H. Meyer
September 5, 1946 – November 1, 2018
Edward Harmon Meyer, eldest son of Virgil Edward Meyer and Eleanor Charlene (Trumbo) Meyer, was born September 5, 1946, in Chariton, Iowa. He died November 1, 2018, at Lucas County Health Center in Chariton, surrounded by the love of family, friends and caregivers.
Ed attended Chariton public schools, graduating from Chariton Community High School in 1967. He became skilled at operating a loom and made placemats that he sold and gave as gifts. Ed looked forward to the weeks spent each year at Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines and Camp Courageous near Monticello, and in later years took weekend trips with staff from Camp Courageous to cities throughout the Midwest.
In 1998, Ed moved to the Northridge Assisted Living wing at Lucas County Health Center, and later lived at Park Lane Assisted Living Center in Knoxville. When Northridge (now Homestead) Assisted Living in Chariton opened in 2006, Ed was among its first residents. He spent many happy years at Homestead, enjoying activities and outings with fellow residents and staff members. In the fall of 2018 he lived briefly at Chariton Specialty Care before spending his final few weeks at Lucas County Health Center.
Ed is survived by brothers Stephen Meyer of Fort Myers Beach, Florida; James Meyer of Estero, Florida; Philip Meyer of Lafayette, Louisiana; and Raymond Meyer of Chariton; nieces Carissa Holley, Abbye Meyer, Hayley Lambourn, Emma Meyer and Chloe Meyer; nephew Paul Opheim; great-nieces Ava Holley, Harper Lambourn and Isla Lambourn; great-nephew Jackson Holley; and many cousins and friends.
Memorial contributions in honor of Ed may be made to Lucas County Health Center.
