Dorothy E. Exley

Dorothy Evelyn Exley was born on February 6, 1937 to Virgil and Bernice (Howell) Emm in their home in Clarke County, Iowa. She passed away, Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Legacy Lodge Hospice located in Chariton, Iowa at the age of 81 years.

Dorothy grew up in the Clarke County area. She graduated from Leroy High School in Leroy, Iowa, which was a small town near Garden Grove, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Dale Vernon Exley and to this union to children were born; Brian and Sherry.

Dorothy had a lifetime career as a Tupperware sales associate and manager. She served the Chariton community and the surrounding areas. Everyone who knew her had the fondest memories of how she would go above and beyond to ensure each party was that of perfection and ideal for her customers and friends. She always had a smile and encouraging words to make anyone’s day a bit brighter. Dorothy was a special lady with her own unique style and flare for life. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Chariton, Iowa. She was extremely dedicated and active in her role within the church.

Dorothy was preceded in death by  her parents, Virgil and Bernice Howell and her husband, Dale Exley. She is survived by her children, Brian (Marilyn) Exley of Chariton, Iowa and Sherry (Craig) Greene of Knoxville, Iowa; her granddaughter, Melissa Greene; her sisters, Ada Hitt and Mary Davenport, both from Humeston, Iowa; her brother, David Emm from Osceola, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church or the Legacy Lodge Hospice center.
