On December 28, 2019 Darl Laverne James, at the age of 83, passed into the arms of his Lord
and Savior. His home in heaven has been prepared and waiting to welcome him there was his
Father Herbert, Mother Hazel, and Daughter Debra Joy James. He leaves behind a multitude of
family and friends that include his wife Beverly James, children Darla (Chet) Booth, David
(Colleen) James, and Denise (John) Phillips, stepchildren Becky Eikelboom and Rick Ludwig, a
flock of grandchildren, the mother of his children Ruby James, and his brothers and sisters;
Marilyn (Bill) McBee, Lois Wignall, Ron (Susan) James, Doris (Richard) Potter, Vernon (Linda)
James, Gary (Suzie) James. He loved them deeply and will be truly missed. He was born in
Chariton on March 2, 1936. The US Air Force moved him to Lincoln Nebraska in 1961. He
retired from the United States Postal Service after 26 years and moved back home to Chariton,
where he lived, worked, played, and served his community. He was ever ready to lend a
helping hand to whoever was in need. He was a very active member in his church ,Grace
Baptist Church as well as the local American Legion. For those of us left behind with missing
pieces we will always have the memory of his chuckle, or the beep of the Red Baron, or the
buzz of a lawn mower, or the shuffling of the pitch deck, or any of the million of moments that
were brightened by the brilliant force of nature that was Darl James. Whether you called him
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, friend, or The Legend he will always live in our
hearts.
