Carol Ruth Hart-Exley was born July 13, 1949 to Warren Edward and Lillian Louise (Tait) Exley in Corydon, Iowa. She passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the Legacy Lodge Hospice located in Chariton, Iowa at the age of 69 years.
Carol grew up in the Humeston area and attended the Morman Trail School. She graduated from the Morman Trail High School in 1967. After high school, she enrolled at the Indian Hills Community College, where she obtained her LPN degree in 1973. In 1978, Carol graduated from the Grandview College with an RN degree in Nursing. She had worked at the Lucas County Health Center. Due to her continuing loss of hearing, Carol took an early retirement in 2008.
Carol was united in marriage to Gaylord S. Hart, July 15, 1990 in her hometown of Humeston, Iowa. The couple divorced in 2001, but remained the best of friends throughout her life. She was a member of the Humeston Christian United Methodist Church and the American Quarter Horse Association. Most of her adult life, she lived in Iowa and Northern Missouri. Carol had a caring heart as she enjoyed taking care of people and animals, especially horses. In her spare time, she liked doing handicrafts.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Lillian (Tait) Exley and her brother, Lee Roy Exley.
She is survived by her brothers, Charles (Dorothy) Exley of Humeston, Iowa and Ray (Juliana) of Beverly Hills, California; her ex-husband, Gaylord Hart of Humeston, Iowa; her nieces, Cynthia (Dan) Lombardi of Los Angeles, California and Lisa (David Robertson) Exley of Breckenridge, Colorado; her grand-nieces and nephews, Hunter and Hayli Lombardi of Los Angeles, California and Jordan and Jack Robertson of Breckenridge, Colorado; and many cousins.
