Anita Rae Morrison

 Anita Rae Morrison, 78, of Chariton, IA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

Anita was born on April 3, 1945, to parents William “Raymond” and Helen Woods at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, IA, and was one of 5 children. She grew up in Woodburn, IA and attended Woodburn School until 8th grade, and completed her education at the Clarke Community High School in Osceola, IA. She met John while working at the Gross-Galesburg sewing factory in Chariton, IA. John was a mechanic, and Anita was a “zipper lady”. They married and raised two children: Sons Marty Morrison, of Chariton, and Mark Morrison of Russell.

Anita enjoyed spending time socializing with people. She worked as a clerk at the local Conoco for many years, and got to know numerous members of the community, surrounding towns, and passers-by. She and John would often have game nights with friends and loved going out to eat together. Anita was a proud member of the local Red Hat Society for a period. She loved attending church on Sundays and going to the Senior Center for lunch with friends later in life. Anita was proud of her two sons and took an active role in her family and adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and had a very close relationship with her niece Marge Vaughn of Texas. She loved to cook and didn’t believe in letting anyone leave her home hungry.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents; Raymond and Helen, sisters; Shirley Konrath and Colleen Showers, and brother; Raymond “Sonny” Brothers and Terry Woods. She is survived by her husband John Morrison, sons; Marty Morrison and Mark Morrison, grandchildren; Todd Morrison and Amanda (William)Hallmark, and great-grandchildren; Kaden, Rosalyn and Liam Hinds, Annabelle Hallmark, Carter and Dillion Morrison, and many nieces and nephews.
