James Eugene Wolfe (“Pete” to all who knew him) died on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017, at the age of 88 in Overland Park, Kansas, where he had lived for over two years. Pete was born on March 18, 1929 in Sibley, Iowa, as the third child of Jay and Tena Wolfe. He graduated from Woodburn High School in May 1947 and served in the U.S. Air Force from September 1947 to February 1950. On November 9, 1957, he married Mary Maxine Arnold. Pete and Maxine had two children—Scott and Janay. Scott and his wife, Dara, live with their family in Dallas, Texas. They have six children—Andrew, 21, Julia, 19, Brian, 17, Stephen, 15, and Thomas and Matthew, both 6. Janay and her husband, Jim Kissinger, live in Overland Park, and their two children, Austin and Afton have recently started their own families. Over the years, Pete was a truck driver and farmer in the Chariton area, and enjoyed hunting and trapping. He got his pilot license in June 1964. He was a loyal friend, a faithful husband, a reliable father, and a good man. May he rest in peace.
