James “Jim” Lee Wessel was born on January 1, 1964 to Roger Lee Wessel, Sr. and Barbara Jane (Marsh) Wessel in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away on December 1, 2017, at the age of 53 years at the Lucas County Health Center located in Chariton, Iowa.

Jim grew up and attended school in Des Moines, Iowa. Graduating from Tech high school in 1982. On April 5, 1986, Jim was united in marriage to Kay Mundy. Jim’s children are: Randy, Jimmy, Chad, and Brandy. Jim and Kay lived and raised their family in Williamson, Iowa.

Jim’s world was centered around his family, as he was described as a devoted Papa to his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, carpentry (wood working), fishing camping, mushroom hunting, gardening, playing cards, plus cooking and entertaining family and friends. Jim had the honor of being included in the top ten of his graduating class in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1964, he was the New Year Baby in the Des Moines area as he was the first one born that year. Jim did not know a stranger, always had a helping hand to lend to others, and would not let anyone feel unwelcomed or leave his home hungry. Jim worked at Osceola foods until retirement and was a member of the Williamson City Council.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Lee Wessel, Sr. and Barbara Jane (Marsh) Wessel; his great-nephew, Patrick Steffens; and his beloved dog, Buster.

He is survived his wife, Kay of Williamson, IA; his children, Randy (Sara) Mundy of Chariton, IA, Jimmy (Peng-Peng) Wessel of Lincoln, NE, Chad (Kara) Wessel of Des Moines, IA, and Brandy (Jack) Miller of Williamson, IA; his grandchildren, Tristen, Elizabeth, Aubrey, Jackson, Casen, and Caden; his siblings, Rexine (Oran) Ellis of Williamson, IA, Mike (Becki) Wessel of Williamson, IA, Roger (Michelle) Wessel of Chariton, IA; his brother-in-laws, Jim (Nancy) Mundy of Altoona, IA and Ed (Sheila) Mundy of Mt. Ayr, IA; his sister-in-law, Vicki (John) Hale of Chariton, IA; and numerous nephews, nieces, and close family friends.
