I knew Evelyn at Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, in 1966 and 1967. She was a sparky girl with lovely red hair and an open, accepting nature. Evelyn played the French horn in our Graceland orchestra, and toured with the orchestra in the spring of 1967. She had many friends at Graceland, and I'm proud to count myself as one.

I am so sorry to hear of Evelyn's passing, she was always smiling. I knew her when I was a kid, in the Christian Church Choir, I am pretty sure she was a wonderful singer. Sorry for your loss. I can still see her sitting in church with her mom.
Warm regards, Carolyn Hoxton

On behalf of the staff and faculty at the School of Social Work, I wish to express my condolences to Ev's family and friends. Ev served as a an adjunct instructor for the Des Moines Center of the University of Iowa, School of Social Work for many years. She also was a practicum instructor and mentor for a number of our master's level social work students. She was clearly committed to providing much needed services to rural communities at a time when many practitioners were leaving rural areas for opportunities elsewhere.

Ev had a ready smile and a open heart for everyone. In our many times of working together, I came to know that her heart space was filled with love for her family, her horses, and her local community, and that her life was enriched by music and the arts. Truly I was blessed to have known Ev, and I believe the world is a better place for her having been in it.

We were so sorry to hear that Evelyn passed away. Emily (our daughter) called me from school today crying when she heard the news. She thought so much of Evelyn and got to know her through Community band the past 2 summers. Community Band won't be the same without her. 😥

Love and prayers to her family,
Todd and Laura Shelton

Mom had that effect on people, with her sunshiny spirit and passion for music. As Emily continues to play in the band, may she hold Ev in her heart. And smile! 💜

So sorry to hear of Evelyn's death. I fondly remember her playing the French horn while we were in high school. As a result, I'm not surprised to read that she was in Chariton community band. I'm glad I had the chance to chat with her at our 50th class reunion. My sincerest condolences to her family.

Johanna, Julie, Clint, and Cody,
So very sorry to learn of your mother's death. What a valiant fight she gave! We so enjoyed being with her in Carousel Theatre productions and at Trinity Presbyterian in Indianola. Favorite memories are seeing her with some of you at the late Christmas Eve service at Trinity over the years - you were missed this year. The most fun was watching her 'dance' on stage with her fairy cohorts in Sleeping Beauty which made it very difficult for the Queen (and everyone else!) to keep a straight face! Many will miss Ev's sunny nature on earth but Heaven gained an exceptional star. Our prayers for peace and understanding.
